Pro-level features, amateur accessible price!
The TASCAM DV-RA1000HD is your best bet for high-resolution mixdown, mastering and event recording! It supports recording to CD, DVD or hard disk media at up to 192kHz/24-bit PCM resolution. Like its predecessor, the DV-RA1000, it also records Direct Stream Digital audio, Sony's revolutionary format created for Super Audio CDs. These are the only devices to offer Direct Stream Digital recording for under $10,000, making the format attainable for audiophile archival and professional studio mixdown!
DVD+RW Recording and plenty of onboard storage for hours of ultra-high quality audio!
The DV-RA1000HD includes real-time effects such as multiband compression, DSP, and EQ. It's USB 2.0 jack allows it to be used as a DVD+RW drive when connected to a Mac or Windows computer - just plug and play (or rather, plug and record!) Its rear panel is also jam packed with all the connections professionals demand. You can record direct to CD-R/W and even DVD+RW media for hours of better-than-CD quality storage! However, even the high capacity of DVD+RW media can only handle around five hours of top quality audio -- That's where the DV-RA1000HD's built-in 60GB hard drive comes in! With it, you have more than 60 hours of uncompressed high definition recording and storage at your fingertips! Designed for recording studio mixdown, audiophile archival, live recording and installed sound, you can trust the DV-RA1000HD with your most treasured master recordings.
All these features, plus a powerful and easy-to-use interface!
Tascam is known for the high-quality and user-friendly interfaces on their hardware and the DVRA1000HD continues that tradition. The sleek and attractive 2-rack unit high front panel has a headphone jack, level control, timer control, power switch, and transport control. The open/close selector for the disc tray doubles as a shut-down button for DVD recording. Above that, bright status lights and LEDs indicate PCM or DSD recording modes. The "Ready" button doubles as a pause key, and when it is pressed together with Play, the data wheel can be used to scrub the audio for editing straight from the unit! That means no need to fire up the computer, as most normal editing tasks can be performed from the DVRA1000HD itself. The Mute button is a smart key that latches when engaged quickly, and can also be held down to engage a non-latching mode for longer periods of silence. Track-skip reverse and forward keys double as 10x search fast forward/reverse when held down. A spacious and easy-to-see LCD screen on the front panel displays dBfs level meter, input and clock assignments, media type, sampling rate, bit rate, total tracks, and current track number and time. Programmable function keys mean you can set up shortcuts to menu operations however YOU want! An included RC-RA1000 remote control offers one-touch accessibility for many functions that are otherwise found in onscreen menus. The remote plugs in to the recorder with a detachable 12-foot cable and requires no batteries. Since there are so many features, Tascam has included a well written user manual that is comprehensive while still being easy-to-read!
A full array of balanced and unbalanced I/O, plus digital DSD in and clock-sync!
On the back of the DVRA1000HD you will find analog inputs and outputs for either RCA or balanced XLR pairs. For digital I/O, S/PDIF and AES/EBU jacks are provided for double-wire formats. It also supports double-speed, single-wire connections at 88.2 and 96kHz. Two pairs of BNC jacks (one for SDIF-3 and one for DSD-raw) are used for digital DSD recording. The USB 2.0 jack allows the DVRA1000HD to act as a data drive on any computer, reading from all recordable CD and DVD media and recording DVD+R single and dual-layer discs, as well as complete access to the unit's 60GB internal drive. Also on the rear panel are word-clock in/out/thru and a 9-pin RS232-C jack for use with remote control systems like Crestron and AMX.
Your recordings have never sounded better!
Because it includes above-average converters, the DVRA1000HD also doubles an amazing-sounding audio playback unit. Compared to consumer CD players, the Tascam DVRA1000HD gives you the awesome benefits of improved resolution and superior digital/analog conversion. You will notice improved depth and subtlety from any 16-bit recording! The included EQ program is easy-to-use and gives you great sound with no distortion. Another excellent feature is the output level control at the end of the effects chain, allowing for smooth fades without quantization or zipper noise.
Included software lets you harness the amazing quality of Sony DSD!
As an added bonus, software especially created for the DV-RA1000HD is included! Tascam and Minnetonka Audio Software have teamed up to bring users an exclusive version of Minnetonka's award-winning DiscWelder DVD-Audio creation software. DiscWelder Bronze 1000, available for free to all registered DV-RA1000HD owners, adds three useful audio mastering features to professional and amateur studios looking to do more with their high-resolution recordings. First, the software will convert from Direct Stream Digital (DSD) audio to a PCM WAVE file that can be imported into any DAW software. Second, the software allows users to burn a DVD-Audio disc with up to 192kHz/24-bit stereo mixes. Also included in the software is the ability to create a DVD disc that will play on any DVD player - not just those set up for DVD-A playback. "The DV-RA1000HD puts DSD recording - the best-sounding digital recording format available - within the reach of anyone," says John Larabee, Director of Sales for Tascam. "Now, powered by Minnetonka's authoring software, owners of the DV-RA1000HD can record and archive in DSD format, and then distribute their material in any resolution or format needed. DiscWelder Bronze 1000 allows DV-RA1000HD users to convert their DSD files to WAVE files at any resolution for use in DAW and mastering software like Pro Tools, WaveLab, Peak and others. In addition to that, artists can now burn either DVD-Audio discs of their mixes or burn standard DVD discs which can be played in any of the millions of DVD players in the world." Audiophiles know that DSD/Super Audio is the format of choice for maximum definition. The DVRA1000 series combined with the included DiscWelder Bronze 1000 software is the most affordable way to get the next generation of recording quality into your studio setup!
