Read the Manual for this product (.pdf format) Maybe you were curious where the police transmitter was, where a boat was calling from, where is that mysterious repeater jammer or maybe you just would like to join the latest radio craze - "foxhunting". The Foxhound connects to any radio, through the speaker jack and antenna connector and will allow you to easily zero in on the exact direction of an unknown transmitter, be it aircraft, two-way radio, ham or even TV. The Foxhound uses a pair of telescopic whip antennas which are manually turned (by you!) until the sensitive meter indicates the lowest reading. This direction finder uses the latest technology for trouble-free, solid operation. The antennas are alternately switched on and off using PIN diodes. The outputs are then passed thru a high-Q audio filter and synchronously detected for phase shift. A pair of LEDs tell you in which direction you should rotate the antennas- to the right or left. We provide the telescopic whip antennas and ask you to provide a two foot long "boom" on which to mount them. For an ideal boom we recommend, and give all details on, using a short length of 1/2" PVC pipe available for about a dollar at any hardware store. Our matching case set nicely mounts on the boom handle for a very professional assembly. And, as an added feature, we've included an automatic T-R switch! The T-R switch is ideal for handie-talkie usage, if you wish to transmit with your radio - go ahead, the Foxhound will sense your transmitter power and automatically switch itself out of the circuit while you talk.
