This Superhet AM550 AM Radio Kit is a "superheterodyne" receiver of the standard AM (amplitude modulation) broadcast frequencies. Unlike the typical "cheap" AM radio kit, the AM550 features an integrated circuit design to bring you into today's technology of radio receivers. The high quality design includes a built-in integrated circuit (IC), 3 transistors, one diode, as well as resistors, capacitors, coils, The unique design of the Superhet 108 includes an integral integrated circuit (IC), 9 transistors, 4 diodes, and other related resistors, capacitors, coils, misc. parts and customer designed hardware. Before you even start building, construction techniques and soldering practices are illustrated and covered in detail. In addition a comprehensive parts list complete with a color code card is provided for rapid identification of all discrete parts.

The training course and assembly are broken down into 5 distinctive sections, allowing you to learn, build, and troubleshoot each section before advancing to the next section. Like the AMFM unit above, after each section you will be instructed to make certain tests and measurements to prove that each section is functioning properly. If a test fails to produce the proper results, a troubleshooting guide is provided to help you correct the problem. After all of the stages have been built and tested, a final alignment procedure is provided to peak the performance of the receiver and maximize the AM550's superb reception.
