By far the most affordable 24-track recording and mixing workstation ever made, the 2488mkII is the only model within three times its price range that can truly run 24 tracks at 24-bits / 44.1kHz. Eight simultaneously recordable inputs to XLR and 1/4", twenty physical faders for the mixdown channels, and each channel has 3-band EQ and built in effects processors. With the 2488mkII you can record up to 250 "spare" or "virtual" tracks per song! This is perfect to store different vocal versions, different bass versions, separate guitar takes, and any possible components of the song. Pick the best "takes" from the virtual tracks and simply assign them to your playback tracks! Varispeed operation provides +/-6% pitch control and Slow Speed Audition that allows you to rehearse tricky lead lines, etc. at a lower speed but the same pitch! Each mixer channel is equipped with phase reversal, pad, basic three-band EQ (high and low shelves, plus a fully parametric mid-band), three aux sends, and an insert point (to accommodate an in-line effect or dynamics processor).
Built-In MIDI Generator and Library!
The 2488mkII also incorporates a 16-part, 64-voice General MIDI tone generator, complete with an onboard Standard MIDI File player and metronome. This enables MIDI files to be loaded and used as backing tracks, for example. Hundreds of built-in MIDI backing tracks and drum kits are included, so no need to go digging through that pile of old CDs when you need to whip up a demo! Full-featured editing, including cut/copy/paste/loop, is built-in and gives you DAW-like flexibility for building that next hit recording. All editing functions are highly intuitive for amateurs and pros alike! Relocate verses or solos with ease and speed. A built-in 80gB internal hard drive gives the user space for twenty to thirty 24 track songs and virtual tracks for comping vocals and multiple takes. Also gives you plenty of room for your stored MIDI library, working tracks, and imported files. In addition, a USB2.0 port is provided for backup to a PC or Mac.
And for the final mix, the built-in CD-RW drive can turn your 2-track master mixdown into a Red Book CD, or use it to back up the hard drive or import and export .WAV files.
